Who Are We?

Based in Helena, Montana, Student Assistance Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing students with the knowledge and tools to pay for and pursue their postsecondary education.

The company provides day-to-day management and student loan servicing for the Montana Higher Education Student Assistance Corporation (MHESAC), in addition to servicing student loans for numerous Montana and out-of-state lenders in the Federal Family Education Program (FFELP). Student Assistance Foundation’s current serviced loan portfolio exceeds $4 billion.

The surplus from Student Assistance Foundation’s business activities is returned to Montana students through enhanced student loan related services and a wide range of public benefit programs.

Mission

Student Assistance Foundation's mission is to provide students and families with the knowledge and tools to finance and pursue their postsecondary education. SAF uses proceeds from its student loan servicing business to offer a range of programs that include grants, community outreach, counseling and training on education finance planning.
